Types of Goat Horns in Minecraft (2022)
We will first cover the mechanics of goat horns, including how to get one and where they spawn naturally. However, feel free to use the table below to directly skip to their types. You can use the attached music player to listen to each horn’s sound in this guide.
What is a Goat Horn in Minecraft
The goat horn is an interactive item in Minecraft, which is also the first official instrument in the game. Players can equip and play the horn to create loud sounds. Other players can listen to this sound from a reasonable distance, even at a low render distance.
At the moment, other mobs don’t care about the sound coming from the goat horn. But we expect future mob interactions to appear in the game soon, such as Allay following you around if you blow the goat horn.
Where Does Goat Horn Spawn
Goat horns naturally spawn within the chests of Pillager Outposts. You can find these outposts in the following biomes:
PlainsDesertSavannaTaigaSnowy TundraSnowy Taiga (Bedrock only)Sunflower Plains (Bedrock only)MeadowGroveSnowy SlopesJagged PeaksFrozen PeaksStony Peaks
Irrespective of where they spawn, each outpost chest has one goat horn. That goat horn can be one of the regular goat horn variants, which include Ponder, Sing, Seek and Feel. The horn type is selected at random, with each horn type having equal chances of spawning. Not to forget, you can also use the same outposts to find Allay in Minecraft.
How to Get Goat Horn
The goat horn doesn’t have a crafting recipe in Minecraft. Instead, you have to make a goat ram its head into a few specific blocks to make it drop its horns. We have a dedicated guide on how to get goat horns in Minecraft, which covers this process in detail. You can use the linked guide to get goat horns from a regular and a screaming goat.
Types of Goat Horns in Minecraft
Minecraft has a total of 8 unique types of goat horns. These include:
PonderSingSeekFeelAdmireCallYearnDream
*Only dropped by a screaming goat Each one of these horns looks exactly the same. But when you blow it, each horn makes a completely different sound. Let’s go over each of the goat horn sounds one at a time. All of the audios for goat horns are sourced from Minecraft Wiki.
Minecraft Goat Horn Sounds
Ponder
The Ponder goat horn makes a sound similar to medieval war horns. You can use it to declare war or to wake up everyone in your Minecraft house.
Sing
Sound of the Sing goat horn is similar to a Ponder horn but is more rhythmic and can be used in a continuous loop.
Seek
Unlike the earlier two, Seek goat horn has a muffled sound that feels like it’s coming from a further location than its actual spot.
Feel
In the beginning, the Feel goat horn doesn’t even sound like a horn. It’s only in the end that we hear a sound similar to ship horns.
Admire
From this point onwards, all the goat horns are exclusively dropped by a screaming goat. These are rarer in nature and also sound much different from others. For instance, the Admire goat horn begins loud but gets muffled in between.
Call
We are not sure about the intention behind this one, but the Call goat horn has the scariest audio. You can easily fit it within any horror-themed Minecraft adventure map to scare players.
Yearn
Depending on how you interpret it, the Yearn goat horn sounds like a continuous ship horn and a wild animal at the same time. In either case, it’s perfect to grab attention and confuse players.
Dream
Lastly, the Dream goat horn simply feels like a call-out to the listeners. It can be great to assemble your team, and it is loud enough to be heard from a long distance.
What are Copper Horns?
In early tests, Minecraft also had a copper variant of goat horns called copper horns. You could craft them by combining copper ingots and goat horns. But the developers removed them in later stages of the testing, and they are no longer a part of Minecraft.
What is a Screaming Goat?
The screaming goat is a rare variant of goats in Minecraft that has a less than 2% chance of spawning within a group of goats. Visually, they look similar to the regular goats, but the sound they make is very high-pitched and almost sounds like a scream. Also, these goats are more aggressive than regular goats and ram into players and mobs more often.
How Many Types of Goats are There in Minecraft?
There are only two types of goats in Minecraft: regular goats and screaming goats. Each one drops four unique types of horns, giving us eight types of goat horns in the game.
Where Does a Goat Spawn?
Goats usually spawn in the mountainous biomes of Minecraft. You can find them on top of and around various in-game cliffs.
What Does the Minecraft Goat Drop?
If killed, the Minecraft goat only drops experience orbs. However, if you make it ram into a few specific blocks, it ends up dropping up to two goat horns.
Find and Collect All Types of Goat Horns in Minecraft
Whether you want to create music or send signals to your friends on Minecraft servers, goat horns are here to help. If you somehow are able to collect all types of goat horns in Minecraft, you can even start a band on your own. Coordination and creating likable music is a different concern, though. Even with goat horns, we don’t have enough variety when it comes to musical instruments in-game. However, you can use one of the best Minecraft mods to solve this issue. Just make sure to install Forge in Minecraft before trying to run any of these mods.
But if creating music feels like too much work, you can use the existing note blocks in Minecraft to create simpler tunes. They don’t deliver an experience as diverse as the goat horns, but you can use note blocks to make automatic Allay farms in Minecraft. So, they are definitely a worthy investment. Having said that, which goat horn sound is your favorite? Tell us in the comments!
